Science-based nutrition advice, with horses at heart.

About Us

At Chasing Zebras, we’re ready to help you review and build the foundation of good health via your horse’s diet. We believe in testing forage (hay and pasture) to understand its nutritional profile, and balancing this with a tailored bucket feed to meet the horse with his or her daily needs.

What We Do

We provide equine nutrition advice. We can support owners in getting forage or pasture tested, interpret that data and recommend a feeding plan for each horse that addresses deficiencies or excesses in the diet.

We sell a small range of nutraceuticals and minerals.

WHO WE ARE

We’re a team. Together, we provide independent science-based nutrition advice, keeping you and your horses at heart. We love horses and ponies, and our team is obsessed with nutrition from the forage to the bucket feed- all of it.

Before studying nutrition in earnest and applying what we learnt, we were getting things wrong ourselves and our horses had niggly and serious health issues as a consequence, but since applying the nutrition knowledge we’ve amassed, they’re thriving. Between us, we have over fifty years of horse keeping experience. Our different brains allow us to balance the science and art of horse nutrition.

LIBBY

“Before we can get started, we need to hear your story.”

Libby is our Customer Success Manager. Libby is passionate about horse nutrition and has been on quite the journey on her own property to finally arrive at reasons why horses kept getting sick and losing weight, and she’s turned a desperate situation around. Her horses got better and finally she found answers as to why they were getting sick or just not doing well. It was Libby that was the inspiration for this business, she wanted to help other horses and horse owners so that they could get straight to answers that took her years to find.

Libby has been riding since she was a child, been a pony club coach, taught her own children to ride and she owns a small herd of Arabian horses. Libby is a great listener, intuitive and brilliant at conveying information in practical, easy to understand ways that mean you can take action.

LOUISE

“Nutrition is part art and mostly science. There’s an overwhelming amount of science for the average horse owner, and some gaps that nutritionists know how to bridge…it’s well worth having a scientist in your feed room.”

Louise is our Chief Scientist, she has two life sciences degrees and equine nutrition qualifications. She continues to take courses to grow her knowledge so that she can help more horses.

Louise reads like a nerd about all things nutrition as well as pasture; she follows several nutritionists and regenerative agriculture enthusiasts to maintain a broad view of horse nutrition from pasture to bucket feed, and she keeps a close watch on the latest fads and trends. Louise built our in-house nutrition calculator tool, which is driven by Dr Eleanor Kellon VMD’s recommendations for optimal mineral intake and dietary balance for a range of horses including: high performance horses; growing, pregnant and lactating horses; paddock ornaments and happy hackers.

Louise has a small herd of horses- a spanish filly, a palomino azteca, and a sportaloosa mare. Louise has competed in the past and these days she enjoys hacking in the forest and at the beach, trekking, jumping the odd jump and training classical dressage at home.

Together, we have worked with customers to chase off many ‘zebras’ by correctly balancing horses’ diets. The horses on our nutrition programmes are doing well on simple, correctly balanced diets appropriate to their lifestyle and life stage. Visit our testimonials page to read some of their stories.
