Science-based nutrition advice, with horses at heart.

Chasing Zebras Ltd offers science-based nutrition advice, with horses at heart. We do not have commercial interests in any horse feed companies, so we offer independent advice, tailored to your horse and you.

The advice is based on recommendations for optimal nutrition as taught on NRC+ and other courses developed by Dr Eleanor Kellon VMD, as well as our many years of experience keeping horses in Aotearoa- New Zealand.

About Our Name

“When you hear hoofbeats, look for horses, not zebras.”

It’s an axiom from medical school that’s used to encourage doctors to first think about what is a more common—and potentially more likely—diagnosis, before they go chasing a “zebra” or an unusual diagnosis.

Put simply, common issues have common causes. And our team is here to help with  one of the most common causes: nutrition. Many niggly or serious health issues that our horses are experiencing have their roots in nutrition. If you don’t get their nutrition right, horses can present with an array of baffling symptoms, many of which creep up over time.

At Chasing Zebras, we’re ready to help you review and build the foundation of good health via your horse’s diet. We believe in testing forage (hay and pasture) to understand its nutritional profile, and balancing this with a tailored bucket feed to provide the horse with his or her daily needs.

Balanced nutrition is the foundation for good health and optimal performance. Is your feed regime correctly balanced?

WHAT WE DO

Our Mission

To provide science-based nutrition advice that lets horses thrive. Our mission is to enable horse owners to understand how to feed their horses optimally, and cost-effectively, by creating balanced diets based on pasture or forage analysis.

“I cannot recommend highly enough the team at Chasing Zebras for their expertise, their care & listening & the on-going support they provided me with.

They came to my rescue after I’d had six months watching in despair my horses going downhill physically and mentally. I was at a loss and the vets had no answers.”

WHO WE ARE

LIBBY

Libby is our Customer Success Manager. Libby is passionate about horse nutrition and has been on quite the journey on her own property to finally arrive at reasons why horses kept getting sick and losing weight, and she’s turned a desperate situation around. Her horses got better and finally she found answers as to why they were getting sick or just not doing well.

It was Libby that was the inspiration for this business, she wanted to help other horses and horse owners so that they could get straight to answers that took her years to find. Libby has been riding since she was a child, been a pony club coach, taught her own children to ride and she owns a small herd of Arabian horses.
